SESSION, TITO’S RAISES $2,380 FOR TUSCALOOSA METRO ANIMAL SHELTER

Session, a downtown cocktail bar, joined forces with Tito's Handmade Vodka to raise $2,380 for the Tuscaloosa Metro Animal Shelter. Session and the distillery raised the money by creating one specialty cocktail per month in which proceeds are donated back to the community. Owner Hunter Wiggins said this idea started when he first opened his doors over a year ago.

Garden & Gun - Ring My Bell

Session Cocktails may be located in the Crimson Tide’s hometown of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, but it’s not your average college bar. General manager (and passionate mixologist) Qadeem Hassan likens it to a cocktail lounge you might find in New York City, L.A., or Atlanta, with a drink list centered around pre-Prohibition and modern classics, plus a few original staff creations. One of the latter, the Ring My Bell, was inspired by Hassan’s recent trip to Asheville, North Carolina. “Most places I visited were using fresh ingredients in unique ways on their menu, such as shrubs, juices, bitters, and syrups,” he says.

Garden & Gun - clausmopolitan

When bartender Erin Wilson was looking to create a seasonal sipper for Session Cocktails, a jazzy Alabama joint known for their unique riffs on classic drinks, she turned to a surprising holiday condiment: jellied cranberry sauce. “I had customers asking about cosmopolitans and other cranberry-based drinks,” Wilson says. “I wanted to create something fun and exciting that would satiate their cravings.”

When planning your next holiday spread, grab an extra can of jellied cranberry sauce to mix up this festive vodka cranberry cocktail from Session Cocktails in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. “The flavor mirrors that of Christmas cranberry sauce—slightly tart, subtly spiced, and just the right touch of sweetness,” says the drink’s creator, Erin Wilson.

Garden & Gun - SON OF A NUTCRACKER

The Son of a Nutcracker was born from general manager Hyatt Webb’s desire to put a winter spin on a Gold Rush, one of his favorite summertime sips. “The maple syrup, bourbon, and applejack play really well together and give the drink a nice, refreshing spiced apple flavor that isn’t overpowering and is very easy to drink,” he says. As for the cocktail’s name, Webb confirms its origin: “I am a huge Elf fan and it remains one of my all-time favorite holiday movies, so the name was sort of a no-brainer.” An avowed maple syrup lover, Buddy the Elf would surely approve.
